Students learn Spanish while getting to know Guatemala’s culture, history, political situation, folklore, and traditions.

Specific activities include movies and conferences once a week with themes of interest to the student.

The Museum Katinamit is located below the Spanish school, offering opportunity to learn about the Pokomchi culture up close.

In town, places of interest to visit include: Churches, greenhouses, markets, the homes of local artists and craftsmen, cooperatives for drying cardamom and coffee, a marimba factory, a massage-sauna house and many others places.

San Cristobal, rich in natural beauty, gives our nature-loving students an eyeful! For example, the Pokomchi community of Pamuc gives guided hikes through a nearby cloud forest as a service of their hostel.

The community of Aquil Grande has preserved an old fashioned Trapiche (sugar cane press) that was used in the past to process sugar cane juice.
